To the east of Paris On the 10th day of the 11th Month, from The Year of True Light 5779
(To Benjamin Franklin from the Loge des Neuf Soeurs)
[January 10, 1780]
Venerable and T∴ C∴ f∴,
Blame yourself for the eagerness with which La Resp. Lodge of the IX Sisters desires to possess you during the public festival which it must celebrate on Saturday, 29 of this month, and which would be deprived without you of its principal ornament. Your presence alone will give her a shine, on which she has some right to count after the wish she made to you.
Respecting your great occupations, she desires to possess you, even by submitting to your silence.
6 What would it be if she could enjoy the pleasure of hearing you? It is even part of the object of this festival that you can be there; and if we cannot tell you the reasons, believe that we are doing ourselves some violence. We strongly desire that you come to our request; and nothing will touch your brothers more than a complacency, which they believe they can hope for from their feelings for you.
We are with the sentiments of the most tender fraternity, and by the N∴ Q∴ V∴ S∴ C∴,
7 Venerable and T. C. f., Your very humble and very affectionate ff∴, The brothers composing the Committee of the 9 Sisters
