One of the landmark moments in Texas Freemasonry was the official establishment of the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1837. The Grand Lodge of the Republic of Texas, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons is the oldest continuously operating organization in Texas, established through the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in 1835, with Sam Houston presiding over the organizational meeting. This Grand Lodge brought together the independent lodges under a unified administration, ensuring consistency in Masonic practices and rituals across the state.
